Good afternoon Parents/Guardians,

I would like to provide an update on the situation at Kinross PS in regards to COVID19 restrictions. The Premier will be making an announcement tomorrow about further easing of restrictions in response to Scott Morrison's plan released today.

Good afternoon Parents/Guardians,

I would like to provide an update on the situation at Kinross PS in regards to COVID19 restrictions. The Premier will be making an announcement tomorrow about further easing of restrictions in response to Scott Morrison's plan released today. At this stage, I would like to inform you on Monday we will have the majority of our students back at school. Today we had 89% at school. Schools are not expected to follow the 1.5m distancing rule once inside the gates. This is considered a low risk. See excerpt below.

"Updated advice on schools was provided by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) on Friday 24 April.  It stated that AHPPC does not believe that the ‘venue density rule’ of no more than one person per four square metres is appropriate or practical in classrooms or corridors, nor maintaining 1.5m between students during classroom activities."

At this stage, we will continue with dropping and picking up students at the gates for another couple of weeks to avoid crowding inside the school. The teachers have noticed a much smoother start to the day and have seen a growth in independence shown by our students. This has been a positive impact of the restrictions imposed. Many parents have commented they have also found it easier in the mornings and afternoons, after a few children going to the wrong gate initially! The students have been amazing in the playground. They have been happy and playing beautifully together. I have witnessed them making up imaginative games, that require no equipment. It has been a delight to have them return to school.

Next week, Jump Jam will start on Monday. Students who would like to join in may come to school earlier from 8am; however, they should only come earlier if they are definitely participating. The Premier had stated he would be looking at changes again for schools in Week 4 of this term, so I will hopefully have more information late next week. Thank you for your co-operation and patience during this time. I have enjoyed speaking to many parents and grandparents over the past two weeks at the gates. It has been lovely. Happy Mother's Day to all our Mums. Have a great Sunday.

Kind regards,

Therese Gorton
