At Kinross Primary School, we are committed to developing students' digital literacy and digital fluency, empowering them to confidently, safely and effectively use technology in a variety of contexts. Through the integration of the ICT General Capabilities and collaboratively planned Digital Technologies lessons, students develop their understanding of digital systems, the representation and analysis of data and information, and digital implementation.
Students also build important future-focused capabilities including creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking, computational thinking and innovation. To support the diverse needs of all learners, students are introduced to and utilise a range of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and assistive technologies, enabling personalised learning experiences and supporting varying learning styles and abilities. These tools help students access the curriculum, enhance engagement, and develop the skills needed to navigate and contribute to an increasingly digital world. Through these experiences, Kinross Primary School prepares students to become confident, capable and responsible digital citizens of the future.
CYBER SAFETY
At Kinross Primary School, the safe, responsible and ethical use of technology is an integral part of our Digital Technologies program. Students participate in regular cyber safety lessons that develop their understanding of online safety, digital citizenship, privacy, respectful online behaviour and responsible technology use. Through participation in national initiatives such as Safer Internet Day, and by accessing resources developed by the eSafety Commissioner, students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the online world safely and confidently. These learning experiences empower students to make informed decisions when using digital technologies, helping them become responsible and resilient digital citizens both at school and beyond.
ICT DEVICES AND RESOURCES
At Kinross Primary School, we are committed to providing students with access to contemporary technologies that enhance learning and prepare them for the future. As a school with a strong focus on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), we continually invest in resources that support innovation, creativity and digital skill development across all learning areas. Students use iPads to support learning across a wide range of subjects and curriculum areas. We currently maintain an impressive device ratio of one iPad for every two students in Years 2-6 and one iPad for every three students in Kindergarten to Year 1, ensuring regular access to technology as part of everyday classroom learning.
Throughout their time at Kinross Primary School, students have opportunities to engage with a variety of robotics equipment. These experiences enable students to develop and transfer digital technology skills across different platforms and devices, deepening their understanding of coding, problem-solving, computational thinking and digital systems.
To further expand our ICT capabilities, we have recently invested in a podcasting studio kit, allowing students to create and produce content for the upcoming Kinross Primary School Podcast Station. We have also purchased two 3D printers, providing students with exciting opportunities to explore design thinking, innovation and digital manufacturing through hands-on learning experiences.
By integrating emerging technologies into teaching and learning, Kinross Primary School empowers students to become confident, creative and capable digital citizens.
ONLINE USAGE AGREEMENTS
To access Department of Education resources, including Microsoft 365 applications such as OneNote, Outlook and other online learning tools, every staff member and student is provided with a unique username and password. This secure single sign-on allows users to access Department of Education services while ensuring they acknowledge and comply with the Department's Online Services Acceptable Use Agreement.
In addition to agreeing to these terms each time they log in, all students participate in classroom discussions about responsible technology use and are required to read and sign an Acceptable Use Agreement at the beginning of each school year. This agreement serves as an important foundation for developing safe and responsible digital behaviours.
Throughout the year, students engage in ongoing learning about cyber safety, digital citizenship and responsible online conduct. Teachers regularly revisit key concepts and refer back to the Acceptable Use Agreement to reinforce expectations and support students in becoming safe, respectful and responsible users of technology both at school and beyond.


ROBOTICS
At our school, robotics and digital technologies are embedded across the curriculum to support rich, cross‑curricular learning in line with the Western Australian Curriculum. Students engage with a wide range of age‑appropriate technologies, including Bee Bots and Blue Bots in the early years to develop sequencing, problem‑solving and spatial awareness, and Dash and Dot, Spheros, LEGO SPIKE, VEX Robotics and Micro:bit in the upper years to deepen skills in coding, engineering design and computational thinking. These tools are integrated across learning areas such as Mathematics, Science, HASS and Literacy, enabling students to apply digital technologies to real‑world contexts through inquiry, design challenges and collaborative projects. This approach supports creativity, critical thinking and innovation, while building strong foundations for future‑focused learning.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) is a key focus at our school, with strong progress made through a refined two‑year rolling program in Design and Technologies that ensures sequential, comprehensive learning across year levels. Developed alongside the Science curriculum, this program supports hands‑on, future‑focused learning and strengthens connections between learning areas. STEAM concepts are embedded across the curriculum through inquiry‑based investigations, engineering design challenges, digital technologies and collaborative projects, supported by flexible learning spaces such as our outdoor classroom. Ongoing assessment and data collection help track student growth, ensuring continual improvement and high‑quality STEAM learning for all students.
DESIGN TECHNOLOGIES
At Kinross Primary School, students engage in a comprehensive Design Technologies program aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum. To ensure thorough coverage of all learning strands, we deliver a two-year rolling program that is carefully linked to Science concepts and inquiry learning. This integrated approach enables students to apply their scientific knowledge in authentic contexts while developing the skills and understanding required in Design Technologies. A key focus of our program is the explicit teaching of the Design Process. Students learn to investigate, generate ideas, plan, create, evaluate and refine their solutions. By placing emphasis on each stage of the design cycle, students develop an understanding that effective design is not simply about producing a final product. Rather, it involves critical thinking, problem-solving, reflection and continuous improvement. Students are encouraged to evaluate their work, seek feedback and make refinements, building resilience and a growth mindset throughout the process.
Design Technologies and STEAM learning are further enhanced through our dedicated STEAM Resource Centre, which houses a wide variety of materials, tools and resources to support student innovation and creativity. Students have access to a range of construction materials and are encouraged to plan, source and select appropriate resources for their projects. Through these authentic learning experiences, students develop independence and ownership of their learning. They are encouraged to become autonomous learners who can manage projects, make informed design decisions and creatively solve real-world problems. Our Design Technologies program equips students with the critical thinking, collaboration, innovation and problem-solving skills required for success in an ever-changing world.
